1969 Ford Thunderbird Landau Edition
This 1969 Ford Thunderbird Landau hardtop coupe has been refinished in Wimbledon White under prior ownership with its believed-original vinyl roof intact over a black interior featuring customizations. Its 429 cubic-inch Thunder Jet V8 is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels. The Landau package is an upgrade from the 1969 base Thunderbird, whose most prominent feature is a white vinyl top with landau styling. Silver-grey pinstriping and sport wheel covers on the 15” wheels also help dress up the exterior – underneath the latter are 1-1/2” spacers to widen track by three inches. The hideaway headlight system has been converted to electric actuators from the original vacuum system, while the taillights feature a sequential indicator pattern and cornering side lights are functional. The current owner has been the custodian of this Glamour Bird for nine years and now offers it with extensive recent servicing, many upgrades and service records under his own and previous ownership. The owner has supplied a Marti report, well-known by Ford aficionados. It sets out some specific details about the car: it was built on schedule in Los Angeles June 24, 1969 and was shipped from the factory to a nearby dealership in Redwood City. There were only 5,360 produced with the vinyl roof for the ’69 model year and this is one of 83 with this combination of paint/trim codes. The VIN and cowl tag are decoded on the Marti report.

The Brougham trim interior in black has been extensively updated. Front bucket seats are trimmed in leather and Acura OEM units, 8-way power for the driver with a manual lumbar adjustment. Splitting the buckets is a “Flight Command” console with armrest and storage. The original rear bench is a wraparound style, with a folding armrest separating the two occupants. Thunderbird emblems accent the dash and console and newer OEM-style black carpeting is underfoot, covering extra heat/sound deadening insulation. The automatic climate control has an air conditioning system that blows cold, and soft blue LED track lighting has been installed. The blue lighting supplements (does not replace) the stock interior lighting and is easily removable, depending on the preference of the next custodian.
The black interior is further upgraded with one-touch driver window operation, fresh 12-volt outlets, backup camera with hideaway display within front console, tinted windows, period-appearance electronic radio with 4 speakers and subwoofer, auto power antenna in the rear, high-mounted centre brake light, custom auto-retract three-point seat belts, new OEM style floor mats and passenger exterior mirror. The trunk and its lid are upholstered in black with the added insulating material – it can be operated remotely by a switch in the glove box and the remote key fob. The subwoofer works intermittently and the speakers provide quality sound with it operating and not – subwoofer is installed in the floor behind the driver’s seat and is easily removable.
Gauge package features a central-to-the-driver speedometer maxing out at 120 MPH, while to its left is found a dual gauge with readings for oil temperature and fuel. To its right are an analog clock, a dual gauge for voltage and water temperature, then a similarly-presented control for wipers/washers as well as a rear vent. The original simulated wood grain dash panel has been replaced by a piano black finish unit, the former is included with the sale. Five-digit odometer reads under 36,000 miles, though true mileage is unknown.
I owned a 69 T-Bird very similar to this one for several years. Such a forgotten classic. Looks stunning in white
