1974 MGB GT 4-Speed Manual with Overdrive

The car is equipped with 14” Rostyle wheels over front disc brakes, contrasting black rubber bumpers, twin SU carburetors and speakers. The car was repainted in 2002 under prior ownership. At that time, it underwent a colour change from red. The rockers on each side are adorned in an off-white MGB GT stripe. This GT is equipped with chrome rub strips, a chrome fuel cap, front vent windows, rear pop-out windows, dual chrome-capped mirrors and chrome cowl venting. There are flaws in the paint we have noted with a coin for perspective. There is also an imperfection by the rocker panels photographed and shown in the gallery.
The silver and black Rostyle wheels are wrapped in Motomaster AWII tires measuring 185/70R14. Owner reports that they were installed three years ago, we note a 2015 date code. The front discs are complemented by a pair of drums in the rear.
The front buckets and rear bench are trimmed in black cloth. The driver’s seat cloth is perforated on the outside bolster. The door cards are colour matched in vinyl, with black dash, console and MGB-embroidered carpets. Matching carpet extends back to the hatch, under whose floor is found the spare tire on a matching Rostyle wheel with a jack. The cabin is also equipped with a heater, all six side windows’ openings are manually operated. While the gears are selected by a floor-mounted shifter, overdrive is engaged by a stalk on the steering column whose dual purpose is the washer/wiper controls and is demonstrated among our videos.
Beyond the three-spoke steering wheel with central MG emblem is Smiths instrumentation. The speedometer is right of centre while on the opposite side is a 7000 RPM tachometer with 5500 RPM redline. Under 55,000 miles show on the odometer. Also among the gauges fore of the driver’s seat are those for fuel level, oil pressure and coolant temperature. Heating and ventilation controls are also dash-mounted in the same location, complemented by switches for lights, fan and choke control as well as various warning lights. Further switchgear and a voltmeter are on hand in the centre stack.
The SU carburetors feed the 1.8 litre engine, which was factory-rated at 97 horsepower, with 104 lb.-ft. of torque. Recent work in Spring 2025 to prepare the car for sale included a tune-up, oil change and speedometer cable repair. The owner suggests that he might further tune the SU’s and repair the driver’s seat upholstery were he keeping the car. The four-speed manual sends the power rearward and is complemented by the overdrive system. There are many photos of the underside, both on and off a lift, in our gallery.
This 1974 MGB GT 4-Speed Manual with Overdrive is offered by the owner with owner’s manual, two sets of keys and an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate in Hamilton, Ontario.
