1960 Buick LeSabre Convertible

This is a 1960 Buick LeSabre Convertible which has been in the custodianship of the current owner for approximately five years.  It is believed original paint, original top, original interior and original mileage with an odometer reading of under 28,000 miles, though continuous documentation on the car since new is not on hand.  The car’s powerplant is a 364 cubic-inch Wildcat V8.  This second-year LeSabre puts the power down to the rear wheels through a two-speed Turbine Drive (previously known as Dynaflow) automatic transmission.  The 364 is a 6.0 litre metric displacement and was factory rated at 235 horsepower.  Although only the second year for LeSabre, this car shared only its roof and trunk lid with the ’59 model – all other body panels were new for 1960.

The car is finished in Sable Black and its featured tailfins are trimmed in chrome.  Among the many finishing accoutrements are the chromed front fender portholes and bumpers adorned in chrome.  All chrome on the car is very presentable; minor pitting is noted on the side mirror supports.  Buick badging is in place on the grille, hood and trunk lid while chromed LeSabre emblems decorate the fenders, and rear fascia.  The white convertible top remains in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition.  A matching Herb Connolly Buick of Boston badge documents the original delivering dealership and provides a period complement.  In the late 1960s, Mr. Connolly began a 20-year career as an elected politician in Massachusetts, where there remains today a Herb Connolly Chevrolet and MetroWest Acura, formerly known as Herb Connolly Acura.

Steel wheels measure 15”, wearing original covers and BF Goodrich Silvertown “wide white” bias ply tires, sized 7.6.  Tread is quite good, though tires show signs of wear in the form of micro-cracks and some exposed thread.  Rear wheel arches wear aftermarket chromed fender skirts.  Power brakes are in place, discs in the front and drums in the rear.  Power steering is another of the car’s mechanical features.

Red vinyl with white trim remains bright with matching door cards and carpets.  Door cards are emblazoned with “LeSabre” in a period cursive script.  The front bench has split seat backs for ease of ingress/egress for the rear.  The car was manufactured without seat belts.  Included with the car is a parade boot to cover the top – it was cool on photo day, thus not all snaps could be fastened.  The vinyl becomes more malleable on a hotter day, enabling easy snap-down.

The steering wheel fronts a sweeping 120 MPH ribbon speedometer with adjustable mirrored display (please see our video) and odometer indicating under 28,000 miles.  While the owner believes this to be accurate, True Mileage is Unknown.  The mechanical gear selector has a unique display, with selected gear appearing inside a circle that moves with the column-mounted shifter.  The speedometer itself is adjustable in terms of display angle, please see the video that demonstrates this feature.  Also on the dash are air vent and accessory controls. There is a functional Sonomatic AM radio in place with five preset buttons labelled “BUICK” and an analog clock, the latter currently non-operational.  On the passenger’s side is found a glove box.

The 364 V8 has fresh oil, as of April 2024 and as photographed.  Owner mentions that the car has had regular oil changes during his custodianship, every year before the driving season.  When not in use, the LeSabre is kept in a heated garage.  Videos of start-up and idle also appear on this listing, complemented by driving videos.  The Turbine Drive automatic transmission is a two-speed and sends power to the rear wheels.  For Ontario bidders – owner believes that tires would be the only item needed for an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.

Hi there Im the owner of this 1960 Buick Lesabre one of only 13 588 built that year.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask. It’s been a pleasure to drive on cruises over the time we have had to enjoy it.
I hate to see it go but unfortunately, I lost my storage and it does not fit into my garage.
