SOLD on the CCC Back Lot

This Royal is a two-tone Sapphire White (Dodge code 555) over Heather Rose (Dodge code 550), the code for the two-tone was 571.  The two-tone is cleverly finished:  from the direct rear, this Dodge appears as all Sapphire White.  Again, this is a very rare example in that it wears its original paint so it is not a glistening finish.  There is some patina on the rear deck, fore of the bumper, on the hood and on the roof – all presented in the photo gallery.  Chrome remains very good and all glass is, almost incredibly, original – there are photos of each pane with matching stamping, the hardtop’s profile with windows down and no post is glorious.  OEM steel wheels and wheel covers remain in place and these are skinned in whitewall radials procured when ownership began, Hercules MRX Plus IV 215/75R14 at all four corners.  Emblems are in nice original condition and complete.  All light lenses are intact/uncracked and the functional lights also appear in the gallery.

The interior is one place where some has been updated.  Under current ownership, carpets and cloth portion of front seat upholstery have been updated.  Both were a match to the original and special-ordered.  This is seen by the match of the front seat cloth to the rear seat cloth.  Dash is uncracked and is ceremonious piece.  The chrome appointments feature, from front to left:  lights, amperage meter, fuel gauge, round 120 MPH speedometer with incorporated odometer reading 64,748 miles, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, unique ashtray and analog clock.  In a second, lower, row is a blower control, defroster, key tumbler, wiper control, lighter and original AM radio – which the owner believes to be functional – her husband disconnected it annually as part of his winterization process for storage.  Below that are the hand-operated parking brake – use is not optional as the original transmission does not feature “Park” – another modern improvement, a fuel pump pressure gauge, the dash-mounted gear selector and the manual fresh-air vent, shown both open and closed in the gallery.  There are black cloth benches trimmed in white vinyl with black piping up front and in the rear; front bench seat back is split.  The fresh air vent provides nice air while the Royal is in motion, the functional vent windows are another functional touch from yesteryear that makes us wonder why manufacturers abandoned them.  Large trunk is presentable and contains a full size spare mounted on a matching painted steel wheel.

This Royal’s polyspherical engine is a 270 cubic inch Red Ram V8 mated to a 2-speed PowerFlite transmission driving the rear wheels.  This Royal has a Stromberg 2-barrel set-up and offered 175 horsepower when new.  Electrical remains the original six-volt system, there is a NAPA commercial grade battery in place.  Among the receipts in the gallery is a rad hose, evidently near-new; other receipts are for shocks, steering parts, pedals, belts, carpets, gas tank repair, brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, tires, exhaust, valve seals, valve covers, fuel pump and voltage regulator.  There is water temperature gauge in the engine bay, which does present as original.  One mechanical flaw noted is that the gas tank float is installed such that the fuel gauge readings appear opposite to actual.  Underneath, the car shows consistently with the Florida past, followed by fair weather use only in Southern Ontario.
