2023 07 17 Blog Post – Some of Our Favourite Triumphs
The Triumph Motor Company was founded in 1885. Triumph originally started as a bicycle producer and later started making motorcycles and cars. The first car Triumph produced came in 1929 and the first motorcycle was a produced a few decades prior, in 1902. By 1918, the Triumph Cycle Company was Britain’s leading motorcycle manufacturer. By 1930, the Triumph Motor Car company realized it could not compete with larger car companies, so it decided to focus on the more premium sports cars the brand is famous for.

The Triumph 1800 was produced from 1946-1948, the first model produced by Triumph after World War II. The Triumph 1800 was powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 65 horsepower. It was available in both fixed roof and roadster models. This model was known for its luxurious interior and comfortable ride. The car featured a four-speed manual transmission and hydraulic brakes. The 1800 was one of the first cars to be designed using wind tunnel technology, which helped to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.
The Triumph TR250 was a transitional model between the TR4A and the TR6. The roadster was only produced in 1967 and 1968, and only available in North America. Only being available on a single continent and only being produced in two years suggests that this roadster is hard to come by. The TR250 was powered by a 2.5-liter straight-six engine that producing 111 horsepower. It was available in both convertible and hardtop models. The TR250 was known for its smooth ride and sporty handling for the time. The TR250 was only available in North America, and a mere 8,484 TR250s were produced.
The Triumph TR6 was produced in England from 1968-1976. It was powered by a 2.5-liter straight-six engine that produced 104 horsepower. The TR6 was one of the last models produced by Triumph before the company went bankrupt in 1984. The TR6 was available in both convertible and hardtop models. Available on Collector Car Canada is this pristinely restored 1974 Triumph TR6 4-speed manual. This TR6 was completely restored over a span of nine years. Although the restoration concluded in 2019, it has been driven 10 miles since, leading us to believe that this is as close to a new 1974 TR6 that one can find in 2023. Bid now! Bid often!
