As followers of our Facebook and Instagram pages would know, we recently attended an event promoting the 2024 running of Targa Newfoundland, an inclusive car event that, for some, is more about the beautiful landscape, the experience and the people than it is about the competition.  Just the same, the competitors are keeping score – albeit in a friendly manner.  There are two classes of competition, both of which “Race the Rock” though for different durations:  There is Targa Bambina, which lasts two days.  Those wanting (needing?) the full week’s Targa experience register for the six-day Targa Duemila (Italian for 2,000, its distance in km).  From here, there are divisions by class of car and competitiveness level.  All classes attract a variety of cars – as seen in the selection of photos on this page from the 2023 event.  If anyone is wondering, the Hyundai in the photo was rented locally after its competitors’ car could not be prepared in time for the event.  All competitive stages are held on roads closed to other traffic and locals often come to take in the action in Newfoundlanders’ inimitable, hospitable way as it meanders through various parts of the scenic province.  We are unaffiliated with Targa, we just know it to be a grassroots event that would be of interest to the CCC community and, as such, we are doing some cross-promotion with the organizers.  Today’s page is just a taste of what the event has to offer, please visit the Targa website linked above to get the full details.  But don’t wait – current promotional pricing is only good through February.
