NO RESERVE 1994 Mercedes-Benz S500 Coupe
Available is a 1994 Mercedes-Benz S500 Coupe, a big 2-door Mercedes known for power, safety and speed. This is the Coupe product of the W140 platform, which had a very successful run from model years 1992 – 1999. Technically a C140, the S-Class Coupe ran only from ’93 – ‘96. The S-Class was known as the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz line at the time, though most were built as sedans, making the Coupe much more striking with total production limited to 26,000 relative to 406,000 sedans. Attracting some headlines in the past couple of years has been the sale of this car’s big brother, an S600 Coupe owned by Michael Jordan during the Chicago Bulls’ glory years. Of course, the celebrity ownership influences price and we don’t mention it to compare but, rather, the fact that “His Airness” owned such a car speaks to its prestige and exclusivity.

Black finish is original and remains of good quality. In the absence of B-pillars, the car’s profile is quite striking with the windows down. The two-tone look comes from original grey moldings in place below the beltline – light marks are noted from the photos. Wheels have been upgraded to 18” AMG Monoblock items, which show some curb marks. Up front is found a pair of Michelin Latitude tires measuring P235/55, in the rear is mounted a pair of Goodyear Eagle RS-A’s, P245/55, tires were reported to have been installed very recently (different tires were observed by the appraiser in 2022). Emblems and light lenses are complete and unmarked. One of our favourite features on this car are the parking antennae – given the car’s size, these raise automatically when reverse gear is engaged to give the driver a sense of depth when rolling backward. These pre-date the concept of reverse cameras; ironically, this car comes with a modern dash camera included. The gallery shows a couple of blemishes – light surface bubbling is seen on the front end of the front driver’s side wheel arch and a dent likely fixable by a good PDR tech is shown on the hood. For perspective, both are photographed with a twonie. A trailer hitch is installed – some time ago, the owner would periodically tow a lightweight aluminum boat.
On the inside, you name the mid-‘90s feature and this C140 will likely have it. Heated power front buckets featuring power-operated headrests, climate control with A/C blowing cold, original M-B AM/FM/cassette head unit as well as driver’s side and passenger’s side airbags are in place. Wood veneer in fine condition and perforated leather storage console cover add to the package. Grey leather remains supple and is free of tears. The rear of the cabin shows off a true 2+2 look, with a console separating the two seats, which also feature headrests. Mercedes-Benz-embroidered floor mats in grey to match the carpets are on offer, carpet also appears on the door cards in between the six speakers (with more on the dash and rear deck). Trunk houses a spare tire, M-B CD changer, fuse box and complete tool kit; it is clean, though we note bleach staining on the removable rug.
The 5.0 litre M119 V8 engine gets this car to speed in a hurry. Offering 315 HP (5600 RPM) from the factory, 0-60 jaunts could be had in 6.9 seconds, supported by 345 lb.-ft. of torque (3900 RPM). A rear-drive machine, the power goes to the wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. It is known in the home country as an autobahn eater, able to cruise at high speeds for hours on end. The car is photographed with the hood open both in service mode, keeping it safely away from technicians’ heads, and with conventional opening, the former also shows the excellent condition of the hood pad. Engine compartment remains clean and tidy, a sign of pride of ownership. Seller estimates approximately $18,000 in service work over the past five years, he did not spare much in maintaining the car, many service records appear in the gallery. Notably, pads and rotors at all four corners were installed about 5,000 km ago. Those watching the video may notice a sound over the bumps – to resolve, a new shock (RR), pictured in the gallery, is scheduled to be installed June 27 and in place by auction end. Undercarriae is good, showing some surface corrosion. Seller produced a 2022 appraisal for $25,000 to our photographer, it is on hand in the gallery.

On instruction from the seller, @S500, we have made this a No Reserve auction.
This car will sell to the highest bidder when the auction clock expires. Please review our “How It Works” page for our auction-end protocol.
Good luck, bidders!
@carcaine – we saw the car ahead of the auction and noted that the both bumper covers are finished from the factory to match the side mouldings of the car, not the black paint of the car. Hope this helps. Good luck, bidders!
Front bumper was never repainted that I know of.
Hello, is the front bumper painted as it looks dull like just primer?
For anyone who wants a smooth, quiet, and solid handling car, then this is it. A joy to drive at speed on the 400 highways. I will miss her. Had many compliments.
