The convertible top, in black, contrasts with the bright red paint and is manually operated. Light paint imperfections show in the lower part of the front bumper. Further equipment includes fog lights, non-functional hood louvers, as well as front and rear body fascia also finished in bright red. Tilt wheel and cruise control are also on offer.
The stock 16s have Goodyear Eagle VR50 Gatorback tires measuring P245/50VR16 installed, which the seller believes to be original. Brakes are discs in the front, drums in the rear. Power steering is equipped, there is a special performance ride and handling suspension in place, as well as performance axle (option code G92). Seller reports that the idler arm and a wheel cylinder (left rear) were replaced in 2020.
The grey cloth upholstery of this IROC, an acronym for “International Race of Champions”, which Chevrolet sponsored at the time, is an effective complement to the bright red finish, original per the owner. In addition to the power windows/mirrors and a/c, the factory Delco AM/FM/cassette head unit with graphic equalizer, cassette search and auto reverse remains installed. The passenger seat is noted as lower than the driver’s and there is a mark on the driver’s floor mat. Seller also mentions that there is a scratch on a piece of plastic in the upper level of the trunk.
The three-spoke steering wheel features a centrally-mounted Camaro logo and fronts instrumentation including 240 km/h speedometer and 7000 RPM tachometer with 5000 RPM redline. Also in the gauge cluster are a fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge and amp meter. Incorporated into the speedometer is the odometer showing 22,000 km. Check engine light reportedly illuminates intermittently.
The 305 cubic-inch V8 carries the GM internal code LB9 and came from the factory rated at 195 horsepower, with the benefit of Tuned Port Injection (TPI). The hood insulation was replaced during current ownership. Recent maintenance also includes a new battery in 2020 as well as the most recent oil service, approximately 1,000 km ago. The undercarriage is as well-kept as the body, it is pictured in the gallery.
This 22K km 1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Convertible is available with 2 sets of keys, original GM brochures, original purchase documents, a Haynes repair manual and a non Camaro-specific car cover in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia.
