Modified 1993 Pontiac Firebird Formula Firehawk SLP 6-Speed Manual

Here is a modified 1993 Pontiac Firebird Formula Firehawk SLP 6-Speed Manual accompanied by extensive original documentation.  This 1993 is of the first model year of the fourth and, ultimately, last generation of Firebird – produced through MY 2002, with Pontiac’s demise coming in 2010.  This is a US car, originally delivered by Elhart Pontiac Jeep Eagle GMC Truck of Holland, Michigan – the property now houses Kia and Nissan dealerships.  This Firehawk was retained by the original owner for some fifteen years – see his hand-kept record-keeping of fill-ups and oil services in the gallery – and imported to Canada by the owner prior to the seller.  The car has been well cared for, as evidenced by the photos, videos and clean Carfax (linked in CCC Vital Info), the latter of which contains an unrealistic mileage entry attributable only to clerical error – we suspect the service facility included tenths of a mile when keying mileage.

The car is finished in its original metallic green, over beige leather.  The powertrain is a 5.7-liter V8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.  Factory-commissioned modifications performed by SLP Engineering include a composite hood with functional cold air induction scoops, 17″ five-spoke wheels with Firehawk-branded centre caps as well Firehawk graphics.  This car is a slicktop and is equipped with a rear spoiler, air conditioning, cruise control and a factory Delco GM AM/FM/CD stereo with an equalizer.  This SLP Firehawk shows 74,000 miles on its analog six-figure odometer.

This car was modified within two years of new in the form of a Vortex supercharger installation; a Boost gauge is installed on the driver’s A-pillar.  This equipment is supported by an MSD controller box while the bottom of the engine was rebuilt to handle the supercharger’s extra power.  Another under-hood performance improvement is the Hotchins strut brace, accompanied by a bolt-in Hawks sub-frame connector.  The seller was advised by the previous owner that it makes 475 horsepower; stock was 300 horsepower (5000 RPM) and 330 lb.-ft. of torque (2000 RPM).  The car is not currently registered and is insured for fire and theft.

Firehawk graphics accent the driver’s side headlight cover, the doors and the rear bumper cover.  This sets it apart from the period Firebird base Formula and Trans Am, slotting itself between the two with much lower production numbers.  The Firehawk was limited production enough for each to have a numbered badge installed on each’s console – this is number 90, as photographed.  Performance was the main consideration for SLP, thus the composite lightweight hood.  The hood scoops are functional, feeding air to the 350 V8.  Other hints to the performance of this car are the rear spoiler and dual exhaust tips specific to the Firehawk.

The 17” wheels are Firehawk package specific.  They are wrapped in a square set-up of Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.  The tires are Y-rated and measure P275/40.  Underneath the striking wheels are found disc brakes at all four corners, featuring ABS.

The cabin is upholstered in beige leather – we might call it tan but GM’s original sticker in the gallery denotes beige.  The dashboard, centre console and door trim are finished in a complementary grey.  Equipment includes power bucket seats by Recaro, air conditioning, cruise control, power locks and windows and the factory Delco AM/FM/CD stereo with equalizer.

A multifunction steering wheel frames a 155-mph speedometer, tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 74,000 miles.  Recent maintenance includes a new headliner and battery.  Previously, the A/C pump and dryer were replaced, as were spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and ignition module.  Receipts are on hand.  Though the a/c has recently been serviced, a leak exists in the system, and it is not blowing cold.
